TESTING + PREVENTION
Are you PrEPared?
PrEP - A new tool that helps prevent HIV
If you’re HIV-negative, PrEP (Pre-exposure prophylaxis) can help protect you from getting infected. This is done by taking one pill every day. PrEP contains some of the same medicines used to keep the virus under control in people who are already living with HIV. It is an additional tool for people to consider in their HIV prevention toolbox. It is highly effective for preventing HIV if used as prescribed, but it is much less effective when not taken consistently.
Daily PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV from sex by more than 90%. Among people who inject drugs, it reduces the risk by more than 70%. Your risk of getting HIV from sex can be even lower if you combine PrEP with condoms and other prevention methods, as is recommended.
It can be scary to get tested, but knowing your status gives you the power to make the best choices for your health. That’s why we offer free, non-judgmental HIV and Sexually Transmitted Disease/Infection (STD/STI) testing.
Prevention Education
Dudley’s Place is committed to reducing the risks associated with HIV transmission through education.
Our staff offers community presentations customized for your group, schools, congregations, community centers, prisons, substance abuse centers, high schools, colleges and universities.
Through our peer outreach program, we can have clients with lived experiences share their journey of living with HIV.
We recommend pairing a prevention presentation with a testing event immediately after.
